AUGUST RUSH

Recovering from surgery, A Baptism, Fair Days and Showing lambs, 4-H and Peewee 4-H and Riding the Sponsor Flags for the Rodeo, going to the Temple with Tyrell, and last but not least get every thing ready for School to start. Aug felt like it flew by and we hardly have time to catch our breath. There was so much that had to be done for the lambs and then cramming the horse practicing in made for a really busy first two weeks this month. Tyrell just worked and thank goodness didn’t have to work on days that I needed him to drive the truck and trailer for J’s flag practices. J. showed her sheep and won a blue ribbon and third place for her weight bracket. Alonzo learned to shear sheep and next year the kids get to learn; since his back felt broke and it took at least three days of four different shearing tries. One Lamb was so ticklish it was crazy. C. showed his lamb and almost won but the lamb jumped just as the judge was going to select him and so he changed his mind. He still sold it for a great price. M. learned tons for his first year, he got to do the showmanship and got his t-shirt but his lamb didn’t make weight so she came home and we will be breeding her and making a herd for ourselves. M. and J. did the 4-H horse show and M. took a white ribbon for keyhole and a red ribbon for barrels and then by points was selected to represent Sevier County for the State 4-H show. He isn’t being brave enough to go so maybe next yr. He took second in the group over all and his self esteem isn’t up to allowing him to know that he can beat the girl that took first especially if there are going to be many other girls like her at the big state show.
J. took blue ribbons in Poles and Barrels and third in Horsemanship, Western Pleasure and the big test. She tied for second with another girl to represent Sevier County at the State 4-H show and she is thrilled, it’s been a long time coming with stupid horses that she has always had to start from scratch with every year it seems. She has a barrel run time of 18.69 and its getting slowly shaved down, on a horse that we least expected to be a good horse. She had a blast riding the sponsor’s flags and then their group got invited to ride the American Flags for the Western Extreme 15 Barrel races. She would have loved to try ridding the barrels in the open class competitions the next day but we were going to the Temple with Tyrell and couldn’t haul her and just leave her there. The show is to air on RFD TV, At Your Leisure TV and Horseshow.com but we are not sure what days. C. started football right after the fair got over and so every night he is at practice and the walls are safe inside the house again for a bit. They have only won one game, there isn’t many on their team so they get really tired. K. and Z. with cousin B. did the Pee Wee show and learned tons and had a blast. We are in for it next yr because all they do is fight over who gets to ride the horse after each event.
Tyrell and J. went and got their Patriarchal Blessing what a sweet moment that was in the busy month.
SCHOOL STARTS one in high school, one in Jr. High, three in Elementary and one in Preschool. I am not sure if it’s easier or not since I spent the first three days there at one of the schools. Jer. really thought the first day of riding the bus was cool the second he didn’t think was so great to have to leave Mom and the third day he told the bus driver all kinds of things and was too busy to tell me goodbye.
Soccer started too for M., K. and Z.. Its Z.’s first time and he loves it. It’s funny to watch the things theses little guys do when they are trying to be so big. M. is in to winning and K. loves to be the Goalie. Even Jer. said I got my soccer ball; it was a tiny bead that he threaded on a necklace at school. Well that sums up a busy summer and the busiest of all the months. Even Alonzo had changes he was released from his stake calling in the Sunday school presidency after three years in there. Bring on September we are ready for that adventure.

K’s Baptism

Turning eight is so great we had a lovely baptism with great talks to help us all remember the Holy Ghost and why we choose to be baptized. K. got his scriptures and a tote to carry them in, now he is missionary ready when the time comes. Tyrell baptized K. because he really wanted him to and then he was confirmed by his Dad. That was Tyrell’s first priesthood action.

My Hospital VACATION

What a treat Wed. after spending the whole day hiking with J. I got home and took all my scouts to the swimming pool for pack meeting. Waves of nausea start to wash over me I think I have the flu. I barely make it home and climb into bed. I really could careless what all the boys are doing and DAD will have to be in charge because I am SICK! Finally relief sometime around 3:00am all day THURSDAY I feel quezy and slow. I go to bed early and FRIDAY I wake up new women. I FEEL GREAT I start the laundry, take J. to go baby-sit, do the morning chores, and send the boys out to change the water. WILL SOMEONE PLEASE ANSWER THE STUPID PHONE? I AM SUPER SICK AGAIN. I am on the bed trying to get the boys attention. I know they are done doing the water in the field and I have my cell phone calling the house phone and they are not responding. I can hardly move I have so much pain in my gut. Alonzo calls I tell him I am really sick and he says see if you can find someone to bring you in. I hang up on him because like who, the girl without a drivers license and then how does she get back home. A few min later the boys finally clue in that the home phone won’t stop ringing and they answer, I am finally able to get them to come to me. They call DAD and convince him that Mom is really sick and can’t even move. I say “I know it’s my appendix”. He has to rearrange everything because he is the one at the hospital who is doing the surgeries right now; and he is on call all night to boot. Sure enough I get to have a vacation with the surgery crew not including my hubby because that is a conflict of interest and he doesn’t even get paid but he starts all the paperwork and the prep meds and IV stick. And the ultimo he still has to spend the weekend hanging around the hospital not getting paid but still being on call with the wife who is recovering. I have to admit the relief is wonderful and it feel tons better then when I had my c-section with Jer.. Recovery is really fast and I am just like new again. Well maybe a bit on the slow side and I can’t bend over yet the stitch spots catch still. I think I may have been having a problem since my first bout when I was preg. with Jer. and they couldn’t do anything anyway and that was about 31/2 years ago.

GIRLS HIKE 4yr level

Nervous about not being able to make it and crashing the hike can I really keep up with the girls, it’s been along time since I have hiked like this carrying my own food and bedding gear, but I guess I am game. J. and the MOM with all the other girls from Monroe stake took off over Monroe Mountain just a bit below signal peak looking at the beauty of nature, the flowers that were everywhere and the smell of Elk but not really seeing any. At one point we were right out on the rocky ledge that when you are down in the valley you can see up on the side of the mountain. Someone was brave and built an alter of rocks on the very edge of it were it is all rocky. There were the most heavenly smelling flowers up there; maybe you could smell them because there wasn’t as much pollution up above the clouds at 10, 0000.00 feet. We slept very cozy and dumped extra water as we walked back out to lighten our load. I think my hike with the family the weekend before prepped me to make it through this long hike. Sharing my testimony and camping just me and her were the best of all. I love You J. GIRL!

FAMILY CAMPING

We have waited for four summers to really do that thing called camping. We have done things like drive up and stay till its way dark or stay in hotels were we had light to get Jer.’s oxygen set up, but not in a tent in the high altitude without all the tools that tell us were he sets in oxygen saturations. BUT this is the year for that. I finally have the confidence to tell were his levels sit and know all the signs and he is really good at telling me if he needs treatments. So we packed up the car with the tents and drove a very long way up the mountains and stayed for three days and two nights simply not long enough but refreshing. I do admit that I wish we had a trailer and that I could check his sat levels a bit just to make me less nervous and because it poured rain on us one evening and soaked our tent on one side. Silver blankets work to keep wet beds warm still. He did get tired more and one morning didn’t want to get up and take the tubing off very quickly. I don’t know if it was because he wasn’t ready to play yet or if it was the oxygen level need. We hiked up to the most beautiful lake and fished, ate lunch, hiked back and cooked Dutch oven chicken. We waited forever for Tyrell to come up after work. He got lost finally making it for about two hours late Sat night but didn’t stay because Cousin Sam Owens Farwell was the next day. The last day we took the kids fishing over to a different lake and every one of them caught a fish. Of course we took them home and they learned to gut them, I cooked them with panko crumbs and butter and not one of them would taste it. That is the last time they are allowed to fish they disgrace their Indian blood by wasting what come from the earth. It was great fun but we would go more if the mom didn’t have to drag all the stuff together so after the missionary returns I think we need a trailer.
